This form is inspired by the large chalices that mark the entrances of formal gardens. The round form at the top is contiguous with the saucer below, creating the appearance of a single, connected piece. The lower portion acts as the saucer when connected, or a bud vase on its own, challenging the idea that saucers are an afterthought. The glaze gradient deepens the connection between the two pieces, beginning with a darker red up top and drawing the eyes down into bright orange. — Tung Chiang
