SPL Phonitor se Headphone Amplifier
A high-power headphone amp with crossfeed and an optional DAC module
The Phonitor se has the same audio signal amplification as its bigger brothers Phonitor x and Phonitor xe, just has fewer features and inputs. An optional DAC lets you connect up to three digital sources.
The volume potentiometer is a high-quality Alps RK27 “Big Blue”, and output is via a 6.35 mm jack with up to 2 x 5 W of output power. Effortlessly drive even power-hungry headphones such as magnetostats or electrostats.
The Phonitor Matrix function offers adjustable crossfeed, speaker angle, and center level, which allows a speaker-like experience through headphones. This avoids some common problems with headphone listening, such as a super-stereo effect, and the exaggerated reproduction of reverberation and other effects.
The optional DAC768xs module adds three more digital sources: USB, coax, and optical. It uses the highly acclaimed AKM AK4490 Velvet Sound™ DAC chip with rates up to 32 bit and 768 kHz. Up to DSD2576 is also supported.
